City Administrator

Ryan Stevens was first appointed as the Acting City Administrator on May 1st of 2019 and was appointed to the position on a permanent basis on January 1st of 2020.  Before being appointed, Ryan started with the City of Cañon City as their first Economic Development Director on June 1st of 2017.  Prior to working for the City of Cañon City, Stevens was the Executive Director of La Junta Economic Development. 

Ryan is an active community member and has served on the Workforce Development Board, the Upper Arkansas Area Business Loan Review Committee, Fremont Economic Development Corporation board, and has represented Cañon City at the Fremont County Tourism board meetings and Chamber of Commerce board meetings.  Ryan also helped launch the Upper Arkansas Technology Sector Partnership and successfully wrote a funding grant that helped expand the technology sector in Cañon City, Fremont County, and the rest of the Upper Arkansas Area.  Currently, Ryan serves on the Upper Arkansas Area Council of Governments board. 

Because of Ryan’s dedication to rural economic development he has been asked to speak regarding topics on rural poverty and healthcare, attracting businesses to rural communities, and the struggles of small businesses in small communities.  His work and leadership in Economic Development earned him the 2016 Rookie of the Year award from the Economic Development Council of Colorado.  Ryan has translated his Economic Development experience to City Administration by streamlining processes and working with the community and City Council to update the municipal code and comprehensive plan.

Responsibilities

The City Administrator is appointed by the City Council and manages the day-to-day operation of the city under the policy and direction of the Mayor and Council.  The Administrator is responsible for providing leadership and administration of all City Departments and services, recommends policies and programs to the City Council, and implements legislation enacted by City Council. Financials

The City Administrator also provides management for all finances, accounts and funds and the funds for which the City may be a trustee.
