Beginning next week, the CBI is making a change to the way it shares AMBER (and Blue) alert information with the public.
In addition to the emailed bulletin and text alerts to the media, the Wireless Emergency Alert (cell phone notifications) will now contain a URL link to a Twitter site where additional details (beyond the current 360-character limitation), including images, will be posted. It’s important to note the public can access the link without a Twitter account.
The CBI will perform a test of the system at 11:00 am on April 19, 2021. The alert test feature is disabled by default on all phones; however, those who have chosen to enable the test alerts on their device may receive this test notification.
This shift builds on efforts by the CBI to ensure that AMBER (and Blue) alert notifications are as robust as possible for these time-sensitive community notifications. This also builds on the CBI effort to transition the AMBER Alert bulletins to a more simplified look that better focuses on the details of the incident.
