The City of Cañon City will be granting amnesty regarding fence repair permits to city residents through April 30, 2022, so they can repair residential fences that were damaged during the December 15, 2021 wind storm.
The intense wind gusts in our area yesterday uprooted trees and damaged or destroyed a number of fences. Residents usually need to obtain a permit from the City prior to replacing or repairing a fence. In light of the current situation and the damaging wind everyone experienced, the City of Cañon City will be granting amnesty regarding fence permits to city residents through April 30, 2022, so they can repair their residential fences without having to obtain a permit from the City. This is for existing fences only, and residents should be able to verify the existence of fence on their property prior to the December 15th wind storm. Brand new fences will still need a permit prior to being built. Residents will need to be able to show proof of an existing fence (photo or prior permit) if requested by city staff. This amnesty will also apply to commercial fencing that falls within city limits.
Please make sure you are selecting contractors who are licensed with the City and are bonded & insured.
