Water Treatment Plant

System Responsibilities

The Water Treatment Plant is responsible for the operation, repair, and maintenance of the City’s water supply system. This includes all parts of the water system supply chain from:

  • The raw water diversion and pumping facilities
  • To the raw water pipelines
  • The treatment facilities
  • The finished water pumping facilities
  • The finished water storage facilities

The operators focus on preventative maintenance programs designed to extend the life of all assets.

Personnel

The Water Treatment Plant consists of 11 personnel that operate the water treatment plant around the clock, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment licenses all of the Operators at the water plant. They are available at 719-269-9019 to respond to customer inquiries regarding their water quality.

Responsibilities & Functions

The responsibilities and functions of the Water Treatment Plant include:

  • Pumps, Control Valves, Chemical Feed Systems, Electrical Systems and  
  • Maintenance of the Anthracite/Sand Filters
  • Maintaining Water Quality through continuous monitoring of water treatment processes
  • Operation of the Supervisory, Control and Data Acquisition System
  • Compliance and Monitoring for the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Colorado Primary Drinking Water Regulations
