  • The point system in Colorado is a matter of accumulating points instead of losing points. Generally speaking, Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will suspend someone’s driving privileges if points are accumulated as follows:

    • Adults 21 and Older – Accumulation of 12 points or more within any 12 consecutive months or 18 points or more within any 24 consecutive months
    • Minor 18 to 20 – Accumulation of 9 points or more in 12 consecutive months, 12 or more within any 24 consecutive months or 14 for violations occurring after reaching 18
    • Minor 16 to 17 – Accumulation of more than 5 points within any 12 consecutive months or more than 6 points prior to reaching 18

  • The first thing you need to do is call the Municipal Court at 719.276.5601 to see what the status of the case is. It is best to do this as soon as possible so a warrant is not issued for your failure to appear. The clerk will assist you as to what you need to do.

  • Penalty Assessment citations that are paid and postmarked within 20 days of issuance will result in an automatic point reduction:

    • For each violation having an assessment of three or more points, the points will be reduced by two points.
    • For each violation having an assessment of two points, the points will be reduced by one point.
