[ARCHIVED] Cañon City’s Sesquicentennial

150th Spotlight

This year of celebration is supported by the City of Cañon City, Cañon City Chamber of Commerce, the Royal Gorge Regional Museum & History Center, as well as the generous contributions of Cañon City residents, businesses, and organizations.

We have a number of great events planned throughout the year including a historical passport book for school children, Sesquicentennial Gala in March, 150th Jubilee with Fireworks and Lighting of the new ‘C’ in April, Movies in the Plaza in August, a Concert at the Royal Gorge in September, and a Ute Reintroduction in October. These Signature Events will be in addition to our annual community events including the 84th Annual Music & Blossom Festival and the 13th Annual Whitewater Festival.

We will also be holding special themed First Friday events each month starting in February with the theme Stones & Bones: Paleontology & Geology! Be sure to visit Fremont Center for the Arts and the Cañon City Public Library on Friday, February 4th from 5-7 p.m. for a Fossil Exhibit and presentations on local geology and Cripple Creek mining. There will also be an interactive program for kids with the Newmont & Jelly Belly Mine at the library.

Visit Cañon City’s 150th website at www.canoncity150.com to find out information about all the events occurring throughout the year and how you can be involved to help make Cañon City’s 150th Anniversary Year a success. We can’t wait to celebrate with our wonderful community!
