Fossils as Evidence of Past Environments 

Have your 9th through 12th graders gain a broader understanding of the Cañon City Basin's local geological history and prehistoric life. These modules are based on the paleontological resources found in Garden Park. Students will have an understanding of prehistoric life and ancient environments on during the time of the Jurassic-aged dinosaurs by interpreting the fossils left behind.

Digging for Dinos

In Digging for Dinos, students will research paleontological expeditions in the 1880s using the correspondence of Marsh and Felch, determine a budget for an expedition in the 1880s, and determine a budget for an expedition in the current year.

Show Me the Dinos

In Show Me the Dinos, students will use the online interactive map of Marsh/Felch Quarry, graph information contained in the map, and theorize about historic habitat at Garden Park dinosaur area.

Land Conservation Unit

Middle school students will learn about natural resources, why land conservation is critical, and ways in which they can help through a variety of educational materials. This unit has students creating a poster, an open-ended project, an activity or story book, and an advertisement for the Garden Park Fossil Area, all with a focus on natural resources, conservation, and preservation.
