Building Permit Fees

The City of Cañon City has two optional ways of determining building permit fees: the square foot construction costs per Building Valuation Data (PDF) or Construction Contract for Actual Cost per Resolution No. 20, Series of 2024(PDF). 

City of Cañon City Permit Fee Multiplier = 1.0%

* As of 09/01/2021 the City does not collect use tax up front on building permits for City or County.

Examples of Data

The following information uses mathematical terminology. For the following sections, x stands for multiplication and + stands for addition.

Example of Building Valuation Data

• Group = R-3 (Residential Home)
• Type of Construction = VB
• Finished Area = 2000 square feet by 170.80 = 341,600.00
• Unfinished Basement = 1000 square feet by 31.50 = 31,500.00
• Garage = 800 square feet by 69.64 = 55,712.00
• Total Valuation = 341,600.00 + 31,500.00 + 55,712.00 = 428,812.00
• Permit Fee = 428,812.00 x 1.0% (City of Cañon City Permit Fee Multiplier) = 4,288.12
• Mechanical Fee (PDF) = 110.00
• Total Permit Fees = $4398.12

Example of Actual Construction Contract

• Contract = 180,000.00 x 1.0% = 1,800.00 (Permit Fee)
• Mechanical Fee (PDF) = 110.00
• Total Permit Fees = $1,910.00
