[ARCHIVED] Lincoln Park Superfund Site’s Annual Public Meeting

The Environmental Protection Agency and Colorado Department of Health and Environment will be hosting the Lincoln Park Superfund Site’s Annual Public Meeting virtually on October 19, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Meeting topics include progress in the site investigation, planned activities in the coming year, and how community members can become involved in the site. Participants are welcome to join via Zoom or Facebook Live. For more information, please visit the CDPHE Lincoln Park website.

EPA added the Lincoln Park Superfund Site, two miles south of Cañon City, to the national list of Superfund Sites in 1984. The Cotter uranium processing mill, which operated from 1958 until 1979 and intermittently until 2011, released radioactive materials and metals contamination into the environment. Previous cleanup efforts included connecting Lincoln Park residents to city water, construction of a groundwater barrier to minimize migration of contaminated water, and excavation of contaminated soils in Lincoln Park. Colorado Legacy Land, LLC took over ownership of the site in 2018. Current site activity is focused on determining the nature and extent of contamination and identifying data gaps to inform future cleanup of the site.

The Annual Public Meeting is a great opportunity for community members to ask questions and become informed of site activities. For more information about the site, please sign up to receive email notifications and check out the quarterly site newsletters. For additional questions, please contact Shannon Bauman (CDPHE) at shannon.bauman@state.co.us or Ryan Kloberdanz (EPA) at kloberdanz.ryan@epa.gov.

Information is also available for public viewing at the Royal Gorge Regional Museum and History Center, 612 Royal Gorge Blvd., Cañon City, CO.
