Demolition and reconstruction work on the Main Street 2A Project between 4th Street and the intersection of 1st Street and Royal Gorge Boulevard is scheduled to begin on Monday, January 27, 2025 by the City’s Contractor, Pyramid Construction.
Work during the initial weeks of the project will be primarily focused on the south side (eastbound) lanes of Main Street from 4th Street to 1st Street. The north side (westbound) lanes will be open to traffic and parking. There is no parking on the south side of Main Street for the duration of Phase 1 of this project. Businesses will all be open and pedestrian traffic will still have access to all businesses on both the north and south sides of Main Street. Pedestrian crosswalks and access to the south side of Main Street will be done at intersections; there are no mid-block crossings through the work zone.
Asphalt milling operations will take place initially, followed by the reconstruction of the south curb sections, bump outs, sidewalks, and the installation of stormwater piping from 3rd Street to 4th Street. The traffic patterns will change during the later stages of this project to complete the north side (westbound) lanes and bump outs. Please use caution when driving on the west end of Main Street as there is a considerable amount of equipment being utilized to complete this project. During the project, parking in front of City Hall will have limited access, and the public is encouraged to use the south lot off Hwy 50 to access City Hall. The project is expected to last through April 2025.
