Downtown Colorado, Inc. (DCI) and the City of Cañon City are excited to announce an immersive two-day learning event, Exploring Small Developer Success with Jim Heid: Hotel St. Cloud Case Study, taking place May 14–15, 2025.
The event will spotlight how communities can empower local residents to become developers and investors in their own downtowns, using the innovative Building Small approach.
Renowned urban strategist Jim Heid, creator of the Building Small movement, will lead this hands-on exploration designed to inspire and equip communities with real-world tools to catalyze incremental development and economic transformation. Heid emphasizes a people-first model where locals play a central role in shaping vibrant, livable downtowns—both as developers and as long-term stakeholders.
A key highlight of the event is the
Hotel St. Cloud case study, a transformative brownfield redevelopment project in the heart of Cañon City. Attendees will hear directly from
Unbridled, the visionary developer team behind the project, which successfully revitalized this iconic property while preserving its historic charm and community legacy.
